AFFECTED BY THE BOBER. The blackberry pest.'says the Taranaki "News',-', is becoming less troublesome in the district, there being sign? of the gradual decay of tho plant, facts leading to this conclusion con'ihg from more than hno source. A Mangorei farmer stated that, he "thought a borer insect Ins como to the assistance of the settler. His own farm was badly infested with blackberry a few years ago. Now, although it is not by any means free, its condition had great.lv -improved,, owing partly to the cutting of the plant and its natural decay. Four years ago he readily gathered from oue patch enough blackberries to make. 36 gallons of wine. Without moving a yard he would fill an iron bucket. Nest year tho .berries were equally plentiful. Last year he could not gather enough to make 'jam for tho household, and this year the berries were just as scarce.
