Harriers have had it brought home to them that it is Hie man who can race on the Hat, and not tlio hill-climber, who wins the cross-country and long-distance races. The course laid by M. Poynlon and S. Murray led over iho' hill from Scorching Hay, through Mirnmar and home by way of T.yall Bay beach and the tunnel. About two miles from home a number of the runners took the opportunity of irying their slaying powers in a non-slop run in view of the Maiden Handicap over this distance, next Hat unlay. Noticeable among thesa were two new members, Kllis and liurreli, who covered the distanoeat, a vapid pace, considering the eight or nine miles already traversed. A run in over the ln--t half mile was won by T. Barnes with Harvey and Bristow oin;o un. Members are reminded that the Maiden Handicap, set: down for Saturday next, will be held at Miramar ami not at 1-owcr 11ntt as was originally intended.
