FAREWELL FUNCTION IN LONDON. B j TelesrrapH-Press Association-Copyright. London, May 10. The Mekmesian Mission has bidden farewell to the Bishop-designate of Melanesia (the Rev. Cecil ,T. Wood). The Bishop of Wainpu was present. Vice-Admiral Sir Wiltnot Fairkes (lato commander of the Australasian Squadron) in an address said that eicopt for such missions littlo would be done to give Christian civilisation to the Pacific Islands. He thought England, through her Navy, should do moro to help by preventing the sale of gin and arms to tho natives.
