CATHOLIC! IN IRELAND.

ACTIVE PROPAGANDA URGED. Says tho "Catholic Times":—"Nmnberlf>ss aro tho proofs am! indications that the charge to the effect that Catholics are unduly aggressive in their attempts to extend the influence of their Cliureh in Ireland is baseless. One of them is tho contention of tho Uev. P. Jliirpliy, of (lie House of Missions, Knniseorthy, County Wesford, that tho Catholics of Ireland aye not devoting themselves with sufficient earnestness to the work of making tho claims of their creed better known, to their Protestant fellow-countrymen at home. In tho 'Catholic Bulletin' he complains that whilst Irish Catholics.display zenl for conversions abroad, they make no organised efforts to bring non-Catholics into the Church in their own land. His suggestion for tho commencement of a campaign will scarcely bo objected to even by tho Orangemen. , His programme is simply this: Obstacles such as intemperance, immoral and dishonest acts, uncharitable- words and deeds, and the neglect of tko practices of religion should bo removed. Prayer should bo offered daily for Protestant neighbours. Young Catholics should be enrolled as Knights of tho Cross, and as members of that organisation taught to fay three Hail Marys each day for tho reconciliation with them of all who are outside tho fold in Ireland. Irish Catholics should also become members of the Archconfraternity of Our Lady of Compassion, whoso prayers and works are directed to the return of nil the English-speaking nations of the world to the unity of the Catholic faith. Lastly, a Catholic Convert League should be formed in Ireland, not only to promote conversions, but also to extend a welcome and sympathy to converts. These are proposals which will, we feel sure, find favour (universally alnongst the Catholics of Ireland."
