So far the Locnl Government Bill, which , was promised so many sessions aud was hurriedly rushed out last session efter i the adverse vote against the Government ; at the elections, has only met with unani. ; iiious condemnation here. Not ono locnl body appears lo find a single clause worthy of praise. Indeed, ih<s general , feeling is to bo against taking the measure seriously, and it is regarded by the ~ average citizen as nnoiher of those frantic efforts marie by the Inst Administration j in its death-bed "repentance, j The chairman of tho Mount Boskill Bead Board, Mr, Hafc'ley, seems to have examined the Bill more thoroughly than . others who have spoken, and he stated at \ a meeting last evening that o Local Gov- • eminent l3ill had been promised for a long ■ time, and ho believed such to bo neces- ' sary, but now that it had arrived there ■ could bo no two opinions about it being a wonderful production. The necessity ■ j for such a Bill was obvious, but in its J present form it could not bo taken seriously. It would have been moro in keeping with its contents lied it been named tho Local Government Board Centralisation Bill.
