They were two hundred yards from the Titanic when sho • eank. They heard tho agonising cries, 5 end he urged them to go back, but Lady ' Duff-Gordon said that if they returned " tho boat would be swamped. Sir Cosmo' ! Duff-Gordon supported his wife'e protest. ' Not going to help tho drowning was duo 1 to Sir Cosmo Duff-Gordon's protest. When ' the Carpathia was sighted, Sir Cosmo Duff- ' Gordon promised to reward them, and afterwards gave the crew five pounds apiece. Counsel suggested that the boat was intended for forty, but Hc-ndriekson disagreed with the suggestion. Johnson, a steward, was Qboard the fourth officer's boat, which got full. He said the wreck was half to three-quarters of a mile away when they hoard the cries of distress. The officer iiskcd : "Shall wo go back?" but the ladies Teplied, "No, it is dangerous." (Rcc.
