THE VOTING FOB PICTURES. There was another large attendance at the exhibition of British pictures yestcrdav and most of the visitors took a keen infrro.st in the voting for pictures. Tho galierv will bo closed to-day botfloop, Ihe hours of 10 and U a.m. as mark of respect for Hie memory of Mr. H. h. Wardell, who died oil Monday evening. Mr Wardell was president of tho Academv of I'ino Arts in Wellington, and m his presidency lookan active part m tho movement for a National Art Oallory. Although ho hud retired from tho eoiincil, lie was an active worker in tha movement now afoot, and was one of tho committee to select the pictures to be purchased. lie had actually taken part ill (he selection, and canvassed and worked enthusiasticallv before ho was stricken !>y the illness which so suddenly ended in. his death. It is probable that tho Connoil of the Academy of Vino Arts will bo called together in a day or two to pay some tribute to his memory. The preference of the public continues to bo shown for about fifteen of tho larger canvases and No. 2fi, in Gallery 1, "Tho Green Gown" still easily outdistances nil competitors for popular favour with votes.
