WELCOME AT INVERCARGILL. (By Telegraph—Press Association.! JnvercargiH, May 7, The Prime Minister arrived in Invent cargiil this afternoon, and was met by prominent local men and welcomed by the Mayor. The Pipo Band played several selections of Highland music. Mr. Mackenzie was then driven to (lie rotunda, where a public welcome was extended U> him by the Mayor. Mr. 'Mackenzie, in reply, said he was conscious of the great resjwnsibility he had in trying to fill the shoes of such illustrious predecessors, particularly of these latter years. His experiences. at Homo had enabled him to get au insight into the manner in which produce .wtvs being handled, and any irregularities connected therewith. Tho whole of the Cabinet intended to look after tho interests of agriculture by promoting agricultural education and establishing farmslie wanted to introduce tho best making strain in order to foster the dairying branch of tho industry. Tho members ot the .Ministry had not till been educated at universities, but they had the people a interests at heart, and would have wider interests in a wider field of adimnw .tralion. , 'J'he Prime Minister afterwards received several deputations regarding railway extensions and other matters oi local interest. Ho left in the afternoon iur Oiiiwia, where lie will attend a banquet to Mr. J. C. Thompson, M.1., to-nigh., and at Otautau to-morrow night »o will attend a similar function to Mr. J. U Thompson. .
