Macdonald (Minister for Public Works) returned from Blenheim last night by the Pateemi. He w;iil attend a social to Mr. J. M'Cluggage at Whangamomotia to-morrow. The Hon. J. Colvin will go to the Thames to attend the funeral of the lata Hon. J. M'Gowan, who was his predecessor as Minister for, Mines. The Hon. J. A. Hanan, Minister for Education, passed through Christehureh yesterday morning on his way to Invercargill. To-day lie will attend the banquet which is to be given to Mr. ,1. C. Thomson, M.P., at Otunhut, and will then return to liivercargall for a da.v or two. Coming north again he will visit the children's institutions at Oteknike, nnd vviill receive deputations in Christehureh. —Press Association. Pilcher, local manager for tho Atlas Insurance Company, leaves on a trip to Australia on Friday. Dr. G. H. Gibson, medical officer and stipendiary magistrate, Chathams, arrived from the group by the Himitangi on Monday night oil holiday leave. To mark the completion of 21 years' service with the firm of Messrs. A. S. Paterson and Co., Mr. Charles Athyn, 1 senior representative, was presented with a gold watch by his fellow travellers and the senior officers of the Wellington staff. Tho presentation was made by Mr. George Shirtclift'e, resident partner, who referred happily to Mr. Athya's good qualities, .Mr. I). M. Home, a very old resident of Woodville, but who for the last ten years had been farming at Ballanee, died yesterday morning from an attack of pneumonia, aged 68 years. Deceased and his family arrived in tho colony in tho City of Auckland, which was wrecked at the mouth of the Otaki River, in 1878, but all the passengers were safely landed. The funeral of the late Mr, 11. S. Wardell will take place ill Masterton to-mor-row afternoon.
