(By Telegraph—Special Correspondent.) Wanganui, Mav 7. Superintendent Spriggcns received' word to-day that a ballot among (he brigades of the V.uitcd Eire lirigades' Association resulted in Wanganui being cho:-en as (lie place for next year's conference, and demonstration. A letter from tho Public- Works De-partment-was road at (lie meeting of the Chamber of Commerce last nigh', statin" that the route of the proposed Wiiiigaiunliaetihi railway has been inspected, and found very difficult, and the matter has been deferred for the present. Members were up in arms against this roplv, which it was emphatically declared would not suit the people of this district, and it was further stated that the inspection referred to must have- been of a very perfunctory nature.- It was resolved to forward copies of . the correspondence to Messrs. Veitch and J'earce, M.IVs, with a. request to approach the Minister 011 the matter, and also io ask the Kaetihi l'regressire Association to co-operate!
