All concentrated at 2 a.m., arriving at Rhodes at 3.30 a.m.: A section of the fleet demonstrated in tho harbour, and the other guarded the disembarka--tion in tho bay, eight miles south of the town. The Turkish troops did not appear and tho warships, never fired a shot. The Turks withdrew to the plateau, five miles south-west of Rhodes, where Admiral Ameglio immediately attacked them in order to prevent them withdrawing to the centre of the island. There were several bayonet charges. The Italians had fivo wounded, and captured fifty Turkish prisoners. Tho Turks are now on a small peninsula north of the island. Tho warships aro able to co-operato by enfilading both flanks. THE TURKS REPULSED. (Rec. May C, 11 p.m.) Rome, May B. Two Turkish attempts to recover Lebda wore made on Thursday night, but wero repulsed with heavy losses. SINKING OP THE TEXAS. Smyrna, May 5. The survivors from tho Texas corrobor-. ato tho report that the vessel was sunk by the fort's shells. The Turks refused to allow the American Consul to send divers to explore the wreck. HIGH-HANDED PROCEEDINGS. (Roc. Mjiy 6, 11 p.m.) Athens, May G. Despite opposition from the Greek and American Consuls at Smyrna, the captain of tho Texas was forcibly removed from tho Greek Hospital to tho Turkish prison infirmary, and accused of spying on Italy's behalf.

The American Ambassador has sent the commander of the American guardsliip to Smyrna.
