The Locomotire Firemen's Union is now demanding nn increase of wages on a scale commensurate with that secured by the engineers. Railroad managers declare that the men's demands mean an additional increase of five million sterling to the wages bill. ANTHRACITE COAL DISPUTE. New York, May 3. A tentative agreement providing a basis of settlement in tho anthracite coal dispute has been rejected, the mine workers refusing to accept tho proposals. A hundred and seventy 'thousand men are still idle.
