The Prime Minister (the Hon. T, Mackenzie) is at Balclutha, tho lion. T. Buston at Temuka, tho Hon. W. D. S. Macdonald and tho Hon. G. Laurenson at Nelson. Tho other Cabinet Ministers arc in town. Tho Hon. G. Lauronson, Minister for Labour, left on Saturday for a short visit to N«lson to inspect proposed sites for workers' homes Colonel G. C. B. Wolfe, officer commanding the Auckland military district, will arrive here next month to tako over

the duties of Adjutant-General of tho Forces, in place.of Colonel Robin, who has left for England. While Colonel Wolfe is engaged in relieving Colonel Robin, the Auckland district will be in charge of Lieutenant-Colonel F. W. Abbott, 8.5.0., who will have Hie temporary rank of colonel while so engaged.

Lieut. 11. L. L. Pennell, R.N.. of the Antarctic expedition ship Terra Nova, arrived from Lyttelton by the Maori yesterday morning in order to confer with the Minister for Marino on business connected with the ship.

Dr. Levinge was a passenger by the Maori, which reached hero from Lyttelton yesterday morning.

Dr. M'Evedy, who has been on a visit to the South Island, returned to Weilmgton yesterday morning.

Brigadier Bray, of the Salvation Army, arrived from Cliristcluirch yesterday.

Mr. A. A. Pnape, secretary of the Sports Protection League, returned to Wellington by tho Mokoiu yesterday.

Our special correspondent telegraphs tnat at the annual meeting of tho Wanganui Harbour Board, held on Saturday evening, Mr. J. B. Murray was unanimously re-ciected chairman.

Prior to his departure for London, Mr. A. ll'Cosh Clark, of the firm of Archibald Cinrfc ami Sons, received a presentation from the local staff, accompanied by all good wishes for a successful and pleasant trip abroad. The presentation was made by Mr. Ross, who voiced sentiments suitable to the occasion. Mr. Clark, in return, thanked the staff for their kindly wishes and the spirit which had prompted the presentation.

Coble advice has been received of the death in London of Mr. Joseph Nathan, head of (lie firm of Joseph Nathan and Co., of this city. The deceased gentleman, who was 77 years of ago, was formerly a well-known resident of Wellington, but for twenty years past has resided in London. When in Wellington he was one of the loaders of commerce, and was foil some time president of the Chamber of Commerce. The firm was originally Jacob Joseph and Co., the deceased gentleman being a partner. He arrived here in 1857, and after being connected with the-business for a time, purchased a partnership, after which he took a. closo interest in the affairs of the company, and was largely instrumental in its development. Mr. Joseph Nathan was OEO of the oritp'nators of the Wellington Harbour Board, and one of the chief promoters of the Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company, of which he was for some years chairman. Eβ was also a director, of the Wellington Patent Slip Company and the Wellington Gas Company (of which his son Mr. T>, J. Nathan is at present' chairman). Ho was also interested in the formation of the New Zealand Candle Company. The members of tho family are: Messrs. L. .T., SI. J., and A. .T. Nathan, Misses G. R. mid K. Nathan (who are resident in London), and Messrs. D. J.. P. J., and C. J. Nathan, who aro in Wellington.
