BUTTER IN COOL STORES.
A SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE.

Considerable curiosi y has been evinced of late as to tho quantity of butter which had been placed in cool storage for w ntci consumption. However, prices dropped at Home, and it was naturally assumed that a good deal, of the make would be going in the cool stores. The totals announced yesterday, show that in all there are 54 832 boxes in tho different cool chambers in New Zealand, or 14,108 more boxes than were on hand at this time last year, and 22,000 more than at April, 1910- as far as Wellington is concerned the amount in store to-day as compared with April 30 last year shows on advance ot -lodu boxes. Another merchant agreed that prices should come down, but to enable this- to b 3 done the factories would have to lower their prices. The values ruling on the London market, and nu things considered, prices should, in his opinion, drop Id. per pound.
