(By Telegraph—Press Association.) « ROAD BOARD DIFFERENCES. Auckland, April 30. There have been considerable difference.i of opinion among the members of ;tho Reniuera Road Board lately. Li.jt evening matters reached a climax, and the chairman, Mr. G. C. Cawkwell, resigned, after some passages with another inemter of the board, Jlr. E. Bond. The annual meeting takes place on Thursday night, and the election this day week. RURAL LECTURER WANTED. Timaru, April 30. Last year the Education Board received from various local bodies and agricultural associations subsidies amounting (o .£l5O per year, the grant being towards tho salary of the agricultural instructor (Mr. Brown), because he gave lectures to farmers from time to time. Jlr. Brown has resigned. Some, members of tho board thought that it would be preferable to have an instructor experienced in teaching children, disregarding lectures. The local bodies declined to assist in pay-ing-such a teacher. The board to;day decided to.advertise in New Zealnnd/and Australia, alternatively, offering J:350 and .£SO more for one able to lecture to farmers. FOUND DEAD. Dunedin, April 30. The police have been advised that Arthur Jones, 70 years of age, was found dead in his hut at Roxburgh to-day.' Tho deceased, who' was a single man, lived alone. He had been a resident of the district for many years. Death is attributed to heart failure. CHARGE OF CARGO-BROACHING. Auckland, April 30. At the Police • Court to-day Richard Wearing, aged 33 years, was charged on three informations with cargo-bronching. The accused was a waterside worker em-, ployed as stevedore on. various boats. He pleaded guilty, and was committed for sentence. • FIRE AT MAKINO. Feilding, April 30. A five-roomed house at Slakino, occupied by J. Hubner, was destroyed by fire last night. The inmates had a narrow escape. Tho house was insured but tho amount is not available. BITTER WEATHER, ■ ■ Christchurch, April 30. A south-westerly gale, with continuous driving rain, has been.blowing all night. The- weather is bitterly cold. Akaroa reports that there has been a heavy snowfall on the hills. Similar reports are to hnnd from North Canterbury. GREEN ISLAND MINERS, Dunedin, April 30. Further trouble has occurred at Christie's coal mine 1 , Green Island. Tho men have all ceased work. They assert that Christie Bros, have not carried out their ngreement to repair the roads in fho mine. Other developments are possible Dunedin, April 30.

In connection with the dispute, Mr. Robert Hill, mine manager, states that, on.furtbor complaints being received from the men, he and Mr. W. L. Christie went dowxi the mine, and decided to place a jig on one of the headings, but, when Mr. Jns. Christie, consulting engineer (then absent) returned ho said that tho schema was impracticable, and it was abandoned. The road about which tho men were complaining as having too severe a gradient, had been used for threo years, during which time it had improved, and it was a peculiar thing that it was only at the present time that they started to complain. ■ The men held a meeting this evening, and decided to do nothing further, but to await developments. BRIEF MENTION. Hawcra, April 30. There wn3 a sharp shock of earthquake hero at 2.10 this morning. Pahiatua, April 30. Mr. William Keeble, 47 years of age, and a well-known resident of Wairarapa, died suddenly at his shop at Pahiatua to-day. He leaves a wife and family. The cause, of death .is supposed to be heart failure.
