MASTERS' AND OFFICERS' PAT. WHAT IS SUGGESTED. Recommendations of the Conciliation Commissioner have been filed wilh the C'ierk of Awards (Mr. E. Stacker) in connection with the dispute between the Merchant Service Guild of Australasia j (Xew Zealand section) and the following owners:—Union Steam Ship Company, ltd., Maoriland Steamship Company. ] ',i., Blackball Coal Company, Ltd., Westport Coal Company, Ltd., and Huddart-Parlcc-r, Ltd. It is proposed that thu new conditions shall come into force from today and continue until April, 1915. Steamers nnder LiOO tons gross register are to bo excluded entirely from the award. Rales of Pay. Masters of passenger steamers shall re' ceivo the following rates of pay:—1000 tons and under, £'26 per calender month; 1001 to 2000 tons, .£29; 2001 to 3000 ton?, £33; 3(K)1 to «K)0 tons, .£37; over 4000 tons, JM3. Masters of cargo steamers of the same tonnages range from ,£25 to X3C per calender month. Chief officers on passenger steamers range from ,fIG to .£2O per month; second officers from ,£Kt to ,£l7; third officers, Jjll to .CM; and fourth nnd fifth ofiicers, ,ClO. Chief ofiicers of cargo steamers ranse from £\R to .£lB per month; second officers, ,£l3 to .£ls; third officers, .£ll to JSU; and fourth and fifth ofiicers, .CIO. Annual Holidays. Masters of passenger steamers and timetabled cargo steamers aro to receive 21 (lays' annual leave on full sea pay, and masters of other cargo steamers 17 days' annual leave. All officers are to receive H days' onnual leave on full sea pay. with provision for accumulation and additional leave as an alternative for overtime pay. Hours of Work. It is stipulated that a week's work for officers shall be 5G hours, provided that they may be called on for extra duty if the safety of the ship requires it, and for boat drill, etc. Provision is also made for victualling allowance, transfer expenses, time off at home ports, sick pay, petty expenses, etc. Exemptions. Steamers belonging to any or the employers named above, which trade within the Commouwealtii of Australia, aro exempt, also strainers belonging to the Maoriland Steamship Company, and which aro under COO tons gross register. It is understood that Hucldart-Parker, Ltd., claim that an award will be without jurisdiction so far as they are concerned.
