SOME SIGNS OF PROGRESS.
Dairy farming appears to be making rapid progress in the Woodville-Eketa-huna district fringing the railway line, there are already many factories operating on the area, chief of which is the Ballance Co-opcrntivo Dairy Company, and during the year two more cheese factories are likely to be in operation, one near Newman, tho other not far from Woodville. The demand for cheese manufactory or dual plants for cheese in addition to butter, is growing all over the island.
At n meeting of the Eltham Co-opera-tive. Dairy Company, when it was decided to'increase the share list by ■ ,£20,000 'in order to iustal a cheese-making plant in addition to tho present, butter manufactory, a shareholder declared "that his loss during the past season through the company manufacturing butter instead of cheesa had been .£351 ISs.
The Kexdale Cheese Factory, Mangaramarama. Pahiatua, has shipped away up to the present 122 tons of cheese, valued at .£7IOO. The number of suppliers has increased from 1G to 25, while the lowest grade has been (10 points. The tests have, ranged from 3.9 to 1.9, while the price .paid to suppliers has been jit the rate of Is. pet'llb. of butter-fat. The manager of the factory is Mr. E. Grcathcad, late of Parkvale, Carterton.
