PRESENTATION TO MR. C. A. C. HARDY.
4 CANTERBURY FUNCTION. (By Tclcuraph.-Spccial Correspondent.) Christchurch, April 29. A complimentary social was tendered on Friday evening in the Doric, Publio Hall to Mr. C. A: C. Hardy, cx-M.P., . and Mrs. Hardy. Mr. John lambic, who presided, expressed regret that Mr. Hardy , himself had been suddenly summoned j away to Auckland owing to tho illness of ■ his daughter. ;
Mr. n. J. Harrison, on behalf of tho residents, presented Mrs. Hardy with an easy chair for herself and one for Mr. Hardy. i Mrs. Hardy responded on liehalf of herself, and Mr. AVra. Nosworthy, M.P., responded on behalf of Mr. Hardy. Many complimentary references were made by-various speakers to the good work JJr. Hardy had done during tho twelve years ho kid represented the disI trict in Parliament, and to the many acts of kindness both Jfr. and Mrs. Hardy had shown during the long periodof years they had resided in tlie Rakaia district.' :
