SUMMARY AND FORECAST.

Present indications are for strong westerly winds, veering to increasing southerlies- everywhere soon. Cold and stormy weather is probable generally. Heavy seas on the West Coast and in Cook and Forcaux Straits. Snow on higher levels, and rivers high on the West Coast. The barometer is due . to rise everywhere soon, and anticyclonic conditions follow. Much snow has fallen on higher levels in the south, and Saturday and Sunday particularly were, very cold and stormy. The weather has moderated considerably to-day, under the influence of a small westerly low pressure in the south, which is likely to-pass in-the night.

DISTRICT REPORTS. (From Our Special Correspondents.) Wanganui, April 29.—Passing clouds and sunshine, following on three days of exceptionally heavy rain, day closing with more rain. Feilding, April 29.—Bright morning; dull, cold afternoon; threatening night. Shannon, April 29.—Saturday and Sunday were very wot. Monday was fine. The Manawatu Eiver was bank-high. There is over .two feet of water, on the Foxton Koad. (Haiti, April 29.-Dull, with bright glimpses of sunshine. Mastorton, April 29.—Biting cold weather was experienced to-day, and the snow is low down on the Tararua Eanges. A heavy fall of rain occurred to-night. Carterton, April 29.—A boisterous gale pnavailed here on Sunday. Monday morning broke doubtful, but the weather cleared, and a fine day followed.

Featherston, April 29—Bright fine day, but very cold.

Greytown, April 29—Dull and windy, with occasional showers.

Hastings, April 29—Sunday was dull and blustery; to-day the weather was clear, but very cold.
