HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION.
PREPARING FOR WORK. ■ A meeting of the Early Settlers' and Historical Association of Wellington was held in No. 1 Committee Room at tho Town Hall last night. The Hon. J. E. Jenkinson, M.L.C., presided over an attendance of about 40 members. Amongst thoso present was Mr. J. J. Taine, who came out in the Adelaide in 1810. Rules submitted by the committco were adopted. The minimum annual subscription was fixed at 55., but it was provided that any person who was born in, or settled in, the district before the year 1562 may become an honorary member with all . the privileges of membership. It was resolved to take steps to register the association undor tho Unclassified Societies Act. Tho following were appointed an Historical Sub-committee -.—Messrs. EUdon Best, F. P. Wilson, Cr. Macmorran, H. Otterson, W. A. Edwards, H. N. M'Leod, and H. Baillie, with power 'o add to their number. The following Provincial Organising Sub-committee was sot up to [;rriai.K the interests of tho assoeia'ioii ir. other centres of the Wellington pr.'Vini'e;— Dr. Cameron, Hon. J. £. Hon. C. M. Luke, Messrs. W. H. liennett, John Smith, L. Stow, H. Mackenzie, with power to add t ther niuinber.-. The following were elected a Social Sub-committee; —Hon. J. E. Jenkinson, Messrs. D. M'Laren, John Smith, L. Mackenzie, G. London, J. 'J. i.utack, ;,rd W. Wills. Tho Historical Sub-commictoo «:ns directed to inquire into the iiuestion of the Jubilee Fund, and report to tho general committee. Mr. R. IC. Lyon was oppji vtod secretary and treasurer, and Ur. r '. O. Mcrpetn auditor.
