The Minister promised to give the request his earliest consideration. Mr. D. M'Larcn communicated with Mr. Ell in the morning, expressng regret that owing to the opening of the Baillie picture exhibitioin lie could not be present when the deputation met the Minister.

A Press Association message from Kotorun states that tlio Hon. G. IV. Russell arrived thero last night en route to laupo. He was waited on bv a deputation from the Rod and Gun* Club, and agreed with their contention that the condition of the fishing thero was a serious thing. It was the duty of the Government to endeavour to effect an improvement. He would trv to obtain the advice of Mr. Edgar Wa'ite, curator of the Canterbury Museum. The Government could not rescind its decision to have a close season for native pigeons. At the new Auckland Post Office three public telephone booths arc to bo provided. The plans for these, states a Press Association message, have just been prepared by the district telegraph engineer. Probably one of the booths will be devoted to a twopence-in-the-slot tnachino, while in the other two the'telephones will be for long-distance communications. Fifty thousand Mail Orders were received last year by Smith and Caughey, Ltd., Auckland, from all parts of the Dominion customers everywhere being delighted with the excellent valuo and service. , Smith and Caughey, Ltd., pay freight or postage on all orders for drapery, clothing, or boots to any address in the Dominion. On cash furniture orders exceeding £7 (seven pounds) in value, freight is paid by steamer to Wellington, or to any railway 6tation north of Taihape, reached direct from Auckland.
