PALMERSTON DAY BY DAY.

(From Our Special Correspondent.) Palmerston North, April 25. The annual meeting of members of tho Pahnerstou Gini Club was held last night, Mr. T. G. Stockwell presiding. 'The report stated that the shooting during the season, especially among the youngei shots, was a marked improvement upon any previous year. Tho balance-sheet disclosed the satisfactory amount to credit of JJII 12s. The following officers were elected:—Patron, Mr. D. Buick, M.P.; president, Mr. T. G. Stockwell; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. H. L. Young, J. Mortensen, and 1. Bell; lion, secretary, Mr. "Waiter Turner; committee, Messrs. G. 11. Bycroft, A. .lust, F. Seifcrt, F. Stockwell, 11. Worrall, J. M'Carty, and G. Schliereke; handieappers, Messrs. G. 11. . Bycroft, T. G. Stockwell, and N.-.G. Stubbs; delegate to New Zealand Gun Club, Mr. Geo. M'Donnld (Wanganni). At the conclusion of the routine business Mr. G. M'Donald, ex-president, presented the trophies won during the past season, and the hon. secretary, Mr. W. Turner, was presented with a memento in recognition of his services to the club. As lie passed through Palmerston yesterday by the Auckland express to Wellington, Captain Amundsen was met al the station by the Mayor, who introduced to him a number of his countrymen. Captain Amundsen and his compatriots had an interesting conversation during the time the train stopped. Mr. Andrew Jack, an old resident of Palmerston. passed away vesterday, after a comparatively short illness, aged nZ years. The late Mr. Jack eaino to New Zealand when quite a boy. and has resided for the past twenty-five years in .Palmerston, where he was in business as a plumber. He leaves a wife and son.
