Russell may lcavo for Rotorua. The Hon. G. Laurcnson and the lion. To Rangihiroa returned to Wellington last night. The Hon. W. D. !>. Slactlonald left, for To Kiriti yesterday, and the Hon. J. Colvin for Lyttolton last night. The Hon. J. A. llauan goes to Woodvillo to-day. The Hon. 11. G. Ell remains in town, and the Hon, T. Buxton is at Christchurch.
> Tho Minister for Education (the Hon. J. A, Ilanan) will journey to Woodville to-day to open the new technical school which has been established for the special purposes of the rural course of instruction. Ho will return to Palmerston for the night, and conic back to Wellington to-morrow.
The Minister for Public Works (tho Hon. W. D. S. Jlacdonald) left yesterday for To-Kuiti, where ho will attend this evening a social in honour of Sir. ST. T. Jennings, ex-SI.P. for Taumnrumii.
Tho funeral of the late Sir. Edwin H. Dean, solicitor, took placo yesterday morning., Thoro was a memorial service in St. Paul's Pro-Cathedral nt 9 a.m., at which Bishop Sprott officiated, assisted by the Rev. A. SI. Johnson. The service was attended by a largo number of leading members of the legal and medical profossionspbankers, insurance and commercial men, the deceased having been held in the greatest respect and regard by all who knew him. The internient at ICarori was private. Besides his many other interests, the late Sir. Dean in a quiet way was an enthusiastic lover of music. He' was an honorary _ member of the Wellington Slusical Union, and it will bo remembered that he took a particular interest in financing Sir. Arnold Trowell, tho Wellington 'cellist, who went to England to complete his musical education a few years ago.
Sir. AVilliam Judd, of the Tolls Office staff, who is to bo married shortly, was presented yesterday evening by other members of the staff with a marble clock and a set of carvers.
The following gentlemen have resigned their appointments as justices of the peace:—Messrs, James Fisher, of Denniston; John M'Lachlan, of Doyleston; lioland Thomas Robertson, of Wellington; and John William Sargisson, of Wairoa.
The resignation of Sir. V. G. B. Waldo, grave, of his appointment as a member oi th© Prisons Board, is gazetted.
The election of Sir. H. E. ]Ccmptliorn6 by the fire insurance companies to be a member of tho Peilding I'iro Board and tho Palmerston North Fire Board, vice Sir. E. St. Simpson, resigned, is gazetted.
