AUCKLAND. LABOUR CANDIDATE DEFEATED. (By Teleeraph.-Fress Association.) Auckland, April 24. The Mayoral election was decided to-daj", when the sitting Mayor (Mr. C. J. Parr) decisively defeated Mr. Hall Skelton by 10,093 votes to 3543, the majority for Mr. Parr being G556. Mr. Skelton had the support of the Fedcrationtof Labour, and the contest created great intcrost, in view of the labour dispute.
• Timaru, April 24. Mr. T. Hawkey, an old councillor-, and deputy-mayor, defeated Mr. W. H. Hunt, for the mayoralty. The vote was 1590 for Hawkey and 863 for Hunt. PALMERSTON NORTH. ME. Great interest was displayed to-day in the- election of Mayor and of a councillor to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr. P. J. Nathan, who was a candidate tor the Mayoral chair. liaiu fell nearly the vjhole day, making things most uncomfortable for those who were working in the interests of the candidates, large numbers of motor-cars were brought into use, and, considering the slate of the weather, the number of people who recorded their votes was large. The returning officer, Mr. AA". H. C'ollingwood, had the result of the Mayoral election out very promptly, and there was loud cheering when the numbers, as follow, were announced-.— Mr. ,T. A. Nash 2250 Mr. F. J. Nathan :.. Ml Majority for Mr. Nash 130!) Both candidates addressed the- lav»e crowd assembled. Mr. Nn-sli opened by calling for cheers for his opponent, which were heartily given. He said he took the vast majority by which he had been elected not only as'a- compliment, but as in- i dicating that the voters were perfectly satisfied with his administration, and that they desired to have his services for a further term. Ho thanked all those wfho had worked in his interests. during the day. Some hard things had been said during the contest, but he hoped all feeling would now be buried. Mr. Nathan also thanked those, who had worked for him, and congratulated the Mavor and Mayoress on the victory whicii had been achieved. Though defeated on this occasion they could rest assured that this would not be his last ! effort, and he would always Ijo ready and 1 willing to further the interests of the town. At \x\i request hearty cheers were given for the Mayor a-ntl Mayoress. On reappearing in the street Mr. .\ash was carried shoulder high by a number nf his supporters, amidst the cheers uf the crowd. MASTERTON. (By Telesraph.—Special Correspondent.) Masterton, April 21. There was a very small poll j n tho Mayoral election to-day, not one-third of (hose on the roll recording their votes. The Mayoral contest passed off very quietly to-day. There were two candidates, Messrs. ~\X. B. Scandrett oud A. Bain. Fordo as a candidate for the council vacancy caused by Mr. Scandrett's elevation. Blenheim, April 24. Blenheim Mayoralty: Councillor Corry, Gl2; C. J. Griffiths, 135; J. J. White, 295. Woodville, April 24. The Mayoral election resulted: Mr. .Tames Grant, '286; Mr. George Redwood, 251. Majority for Mr. Redwood, 35. Stratford, April 24. There was a keen contest for the Mayoralty, with record voting. Mr. A. Nathan, the present Mayor, defeated Mr. H. D. Bennett by 14 votes. Hawera, April 24. The Mayoral election resulted: Mr. A. W. Gillies, 3G4; Mr. H. K. Whittington (retiring Mayor), 207. Majority for Mr. Gillies, 157. Nelson, April 24. The local Mayoral elections resulted: — Richmond.—Mr. James Hunt (retiring Mayor), 174; Mr. W. E. Wilkes, 149. Motuefca.—Mr. J. S. Wralt, 230; C. E. Lowe (retiring Mayor), 149. Westport, April 24. The Mayoral election to-day resulted in Mr. J. F. Greenwood being elected for his sixth year in succession. He received 919 votes, and his opponent, Mr. A. Leaver, f>S3, the majority i'or Mr. Greenwood being 25G. A referendum was also taken on the question of allowing concerts to be held on Sundays, the voting being: .Fur, 971; against, 590; majority for, 3RI. Greymouth, April 24. Very little interest was tiiken in Hie Mayoral election to-day, Councillor Perkins being elected. New Plymouth, April 24. Tho Mayoral election resulted in the return of Mr. G. W. Browne, the retiring Mayor, who received 704 yotes, as against the 039 given Mr. J. S. Smedley, who opposed him.
