PROVINCIAL CENTRES.
(From Our Special Oorrcerondent.) HASTINGS. The Hawke's Bay Fruiigrowers' Association held its annual picnic at Mr. T. Grosse's properly, Havelock, on Saturday afternoon. It was well attended. Tho Hawke's Bay branch of the Farmers' Union held its annual meeting on Saturday evening, but only five out of u's members attended. Mr. Eustace Lane, who was one of those present, expressed himself as di>gusled at the lack of interest shown in the union's affairs, and evinced his displeasure by resigning. The remaining four decided to continue operations. The 'chairman, Mr. T. Taibot, stated that J'armors as a class wore the most dillicuit to organise. MASTERTON. Mr. Hemsworlh, a. poultry judge, of Sydney, who is coming over to judge at Hie Hastings Show, will act in a similar capacitv at tho South V.'airarapa Show in July. Tho Carterton Brass Hand visited the South Wairarapa Hospital on Sunday al'tcrnojii, and rendered a programme- of music, which was greatly appreciated. Mr. A. 1!. AVallis, of' Carterton, was the .successful tenderer for tho erection of a dwelling at Clarovillo for Mr. T. Hay, and commenced the contract on Mondnr. Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Tyler, who have been on a holiday trip to Rotorua, returned home )>n Saturday evening, much impressed witn their visit. Thursday next being St. Mark's Day, a special service is to be held in the evening nt St. Mark's Church, v.'uen the choirs of the neighbouring towns will assist. A two (lavs' bazaar in aid of the funds of* tho Grevtown Fire Brigade is to l:o opened there-on Wednesday next, and the Carterton brigade are arranging to take part in tho procession on Hie first evening. OTAKI. A roan named Francis Ings, of Wellington, arrived here on Tuesday in indifferent health, and secured quarters at a local hostelry, lie gradually bccanio worse, and Mr. Paterson ordered his removal to the hospital. He was preparing to leave, when he suddenly expired. An inquest is considered unnecessary. Reference was made in the churches here on Sunday to the wreck of the Titanic. The general feeling of sympathy ■was very manifest. FEATHERSTON. On Saturday night a collision between a motor-ear and a vehicle occurred on the road between Greytown and Carterton. The occupants of the vehicle, Mr. W. Collins, jun., and Miss Bow-land, both of l'catherston, were thrown to tho ground, and severely bruised, the horse was killed, and the shafts of tho vehicle broken.
