AUCKLAND COMPETITIONS SOCIETY.

» The Auckland Competitions Society has just published its preliminary syllabus for the forthcoming festival, to: be held in the Town Hall from August 19 to 31, and, judging by the lengthy list of classes, the stude.jts of music, elocution, and literature have been exceptionally well catered for. This year the society has again selected adjudicators from Australia, and the appointment of Mr. \V. Arundel Orchard, from .Sydney, for music, and Mr. W. L. Painc, of Melbourne, for elocution, should give satisfaction, as both these gentlemen have had years of experience of adjudicating at the leadin" Competitions Festivals throughout the Commonwealth. The amount of cash prizes and trophies offered this year exceeds .£SOO, and the society has been fortunate in having a Broadwood upright grand piano, valued at JEIOO, donated by the English, and Foreign Piano Agency, which, will be awarded to ths winner of the solo pianist recital. The Auckland Citv Council is generously donating a. valuable municipal trophy, which will go to the B Grade Church Choir. Jn addition to the ordinary prizes, there is a lengthy list of special prizes. Competitors can obtain copies of the syllabus from tho managing secretary.
