PRISON ADMINISTRATION.
CONFERENCE OF GAOLERS. A conference of the gaolers of No* Zealand, convened by tho Minister for Justice (Son. J. A. Hftiiau) met in Wellington last Saturday to discuss prison discipline and administration, and tho possibilities of reform. Tho gacloi'S present were;— Messrs. J.-S. S>eoiilou (Wellington), T. 11 Poynlon (Dmirdin), A. E. W Ironsides (Auckland), M, Hawkins (Invereargill). J. Coylo (New Plymouth), A. Gideon (Napier), and 11. M Murray (LyUclton). - The conferenco was not open to the press, but it is stated, that the Minister attended, and outlined tho subiecis on which ho sought information. He expected those present, he 1 said, to go very fully into oil the phases -of the present management, and to report to linn. H hen tlicv linvo presented their report the Minister will again meet them in conference, with'a view to further discussion and securing auv additional iniormation that will enable him to go comprehensively into the question of how host to improve the existing methods.
