Wimsett, was completely gutted. Mr. AVimsett, who was tho only occupant in the house, escaped in night attire. The origin of tho fire is a mystery. • Tho insurances wero wE2SO in th'o Northern office on the house, and J!100 in the South British on the furniture. . The Masterton Chamber of Commerce has decided to scud a deputation to AVellingtbn to interview the Minister for Railways wifh regard to the train service of the"district. The chairman of tho Wellington Chamber is to bo asked to join the deputation. Mr. J. G. Wilson, Dominion president of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, addressed a number of farmers here yesterday afternoon on tho subject of plant breeding. Hβ also urged upon farmers the importance of combining. At a meeting of tho stewards of the Masterton Racing Club yesterday it was resolved to apply for October 17 and 18 for the summer meeting, and March 13 and 14 for the autumn meeting. 4t the annual meeting of the Wairarapa Rugbv Union last night, Mr. D. It. Logan was elected president. It was decided to commence the championship matches on May 14. Five senior and six junior teams will compete.
