SOME NOT HALF FULL. MEN PICKED.UP IN WATER. (Rec. April 20, 0.80 a.m.)' London, April 19. Tho Carpathia sighted sixteen boats at three o'clock on Monday morning. The littlo children wero hoisted aboard in bags and adults by ropes. Some of the boats were crowded, and a few were not half full. There were husbands who wero wifeless, wives who wero husbandless, and children who wero parentless, but not a sob was heard. Five women died soon after the rescue, aud wero buried at sea. One died in ono of the boats. The list of prominent persons who arD missing is unaltered. Mrs. Candco, of Washington, had both legs broken in getting into a life-boat,. She states that most of tho men saved were picked up after they had plunged overboard, and declares that Major Butt and Colonel Astor died like heroes. IMPACT DESCRIBED. DIFFERING VERSIONS. Colonel Grncio went down, but reached ft,raft, on which wore thirty peoplo kneedeep in water. They were subsequently picked up. lie alleges Major Butt was defending a boat against a rush, and killed twelve men, lie then shot himself.
