CLERKS' UNION.

—4 REGISTERED IN WELLINGTON YESTERDAY. Some little time ago an attempt was mado in Wellington to forin it trades union, tho membership of which was to includo clerks employed in almost any capacity in the city. The persons immediately concerned were , unsympathetic, and the promoter received small encouragement from them. The attempt to include the clerks did 'not meet with success, but a large scction of those concerned having seen tho possibility of being coerced into joining a union, tho constitution and aims of which did not meet with their views, quietly set to work to form a union of their own, the objccts of which were the reverse of what the original body's were to havo been. This union was registered yesterday with a membership ot' 220. It bears the title of the Wellington Society of United Merchants' Clerks in tho Wholesale Grocery, \Vino and Spirit, Seed, 'Produce, and Wool Merchants' Offices' Industrial Union of Workers. The chief features of its constitution are as follows:— Objects—To maintain the existing amicable relations between employers anil employed. Membership—Any person employed as a clerk in any of the warehouses indicated in the title of the union may become a member of this union on written application to the secretary, accompanied by tho entrance fee. Entrance Fcc.—The eutranco fee shall bo two shillings. « Levies.—Those shall be as may be determined by the executive from timo to time, and shall not exceed two shillings per annum. Executive.—The union snail be governed bv an executive consisting of a president, secretary and treasurer, and four other members of the union, to be appointed at the annual meeting of the union, three to form a quorum. Trustees.—The executive shall be tho trustees of tho union, and shall have control of the property of the union, and shall invest the funds not required for immediate use as it deems advisable. Meetings.—All special, or executive meetings shall be convened by the secretary, (a) At general or special meetiiiws the quorum shall be ten. (b) All , questions at any meeting shall lie decided bv a majority of the votes of the members present, and voted thereon by a show of hands unless' two or more members demaud a-ballot. Representation before Board of Conciliation or Court of Arbitration.—For the purposes of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, lflOS, and amendments tltercof, the union may be represented before tho board or the Court by such person or persons as may be appointed in that behalf by the executive, under the seal of tho union. Industrial Agreements—lndustrial agreements and any other instruments shall be mode in such mode as the executive mar determine, cmd shall be executed on behalf of the nnicn under its common seal by two members of the executive that may be appointed for that purpose; provided that no industrial agreement shall be entered into until three-fonrtha of the members have signified their approval in writing. .
