'Alfred Smith has been committed for. trial, on a charge of having committed burglary at the residenco of Mr. Thompson, o£;l^and^ql>, ll oiv, 1 I!ebr i uary r 26. M ■Thd accused in a written statement alleged that a man named Balson induced .him to accompany him to Mr. Thompson's/house. Itt watched tho house While Balson robbed it. Balson (whom tho police aro unable to trace) was shot in |.the shoulder by Mr. Thompson. The two I- menafterwards divided the proceeds of the-robbery. • < The accused stated that he had been for Some time out of work, and was desperate. He expressed his sorrow for the ■ trouble lie had caused. Smith was also committed for trial on a second charge of burglary at Randwick oil January 23. On being faced with. Bpger-print evidence, Smith admitted this burglary.
