MR. PARR AND THE UNIONISTS.
THE AUCKLAND MAYORALTY. (By Telcsraph.-PreES Association.) Auckland. April 18. The Mayor (Mr. C. J. Parr) this afteruooii addressed a meeting of members of the Tramways Union, which is 0110 of the unions affiliated with the Federation of Labour. Mr. Family, of (lie Tramways I'liion, was voted to the chair. He said that, although they might dilt'er from Mr. Parr, they should Rive him a fair hearin?. Tho Mayor said lie was not afraid to face the people; because ho had nothing in his record to be ashamed cf. Here Mr. l'nrr was interrupted by Mr. Paul Richardson, president; of the union, who insisted 011 questioning the Mayor before he .went further. Mr. l'arr: Mr. Richardson, you arc president of a union, and know that the procedure is to allow a speaker to finish his remarks before questions arc put. Mr. Richardson: 1 want to question yon ■now. There will be 110 time for questions. A bystander: Oh, shut up. Give the Mayor a chance. Tho Mayor then proceeded to explain the position of tho council in rceard to the labour question. He said he was being blamed for the nction of a conference of -13 delegates of local bodies. He was 110 moro to blamo than his friend Mr. Richardson would be if' his union almost unanimously resolved on a certain course of action. Amidst considerable interruption the -Mayor proceeded awf finished his remarks. The meeting closed with checrs for Mr. Parr and Mr. Skelton.
