SUMMARY AND FORECAST.
Present indications are for fair weather and variable -winds generally, but strong westerlies are probable in Foveaux Strait. Little movement of the barometer expected generally. The barometer has risen high everywhere, with southerly winds, strong to gale, during tho nipht, but decreasing to-day with a decided improvement in tho weather after a very squally night in most parts of the country. Feilding, April 17.—Fine day; ,cold, oalm night. Palmerston, April 17.—Light frost this morning, followed by a beautiful day. Shannon, April 17.—Bain fell on Tuesday night. Wednesday was fine. Otaki, April 17—Sunshine. Featherston, April 17.—A southerly breeze is prevailing; weather very cold. Greytown, April 17.—Snow has again fallen on the Tararua ranges.
