(Rec. April 18, 0.25 a,m.) London, April 1". Wireless messages from various ships which woro at the scene mako it clear that none were rescued beyond those picked «p by the Carpathia. Tho captain of the Parisian states that if any clung to wrockago they would havo perished from exposure. Tho French liner La Touraino on Wednesday lqst entered tho ice-field, and quitted it' on Thursday. Sho warned the Titanic on Friday, and received tho captain's thanks. An official of the staff of Messrs. Harlarnl and Wolff, tho builders of tho vessel, thijiks that after colliding with the ice the Titanic swerved ami careered along; tho edgo of the. ice floe so that her eido was ripped open. Otherwise tho bulkheads would savo her. Eight representatives of tho firm were aboard. Many entertainments at Southampton havo been abandoned. Tho Mayor has opened a relief fund for the families and crew. The King and Queen, Queen Alexandra, and tho Kaiser have condolcd with tho relatives of tho victims. The newspapers havo opened relief funds. Tho owners' compensation to the drowned seamen's relatives is computed at .£IOO,OOO. Tho Titanic's wireless messages ceased two hours after the collision. Seventy-nine men were saved, of whom 68 consisted of the crows necessary to man tho boats. The "Daily Mail" says the Titanic was provided with a h-undTed per cent, more boat accommodation than the Board of Trade requirements stipulated(fWl but the provision liad proved altogether inadequate. Tho "Financial Times" estimates the total loss at .£5,000,000, including the vessel, the cargo, mails, and life and other' insurances. AMERICA STUNNED. VICTIM FROM NEARLY EVERY CITY. Scores of towns throughout the United States , and Canada are ' represented among those who were aboard tho Titanic. Tho Carpathia's arrival with the survivors has been delayed by the thick icefields. Tlie President, Mr. Taft, has ordered the cruisers Salem and Chester to tho scene.
