The employees at the State coalmine at Wonthaggi, who are on strike, submitted tho manager'B terms of settlement to a ballot and rejected them by a large majority. The strike continues. REPRIEVE REFUSED. London, April IG. Tho Home Secretary, Mr. Reginald MlCenna, has refused to reprieve Frederick Henry Seddon, under sentence of death for the murder of Eliza Barrow, whose property ho controlled. LORD ALVERSTONE ILL. London, April 16. The Lord Chief Justice, Lord Alverstone, is ill. He heard, at his own house, legal argument in the case John Roberts (the well-known billiard player) versus George Gray (the Australiau player), as to whether Gray, who, it is alleged, broke his contract with Roberts, is an "infant." ELECTRIC CAR COLLISION. New York, April 16. By a collision of electric cars ou the Michigan United railway at Lima Centre, fifty miles west of Milwaukee, three people were killed and scores injured, wnuy fatally. QUEBEC ELECTIONS. Ottawa, April 16. The Queboc Legislature has dissolved. Tho elections will be held on May 18. STRIKE IN PERU. Lima, April 16. There is a general strike of workers at Chicama, a town 340 miles north-west of Lima. Sugar plantations liavo lwen burned, and many of tho workers lmvo been killed or injured. Troops ore hastening to the sceuo. DESTRUCTIVE FIRE. Sydnay, April 17. A fire at Ganmain, 325 miles south of Sydnev, destroyed a block in tho centre oi' the town, including largo stores and a hotel. There was no firfl brigade. Tho damage is estimated at from ,£30,000 to .£IO,OOO. LITEIGOW STRIKE. Sydney, April 17. The ballot cf the Lithgow strikers was two to one in favour of acceptance of the agreement for the resumption of work on Monday.
