Christchurch, April 17. Mr. 13. If. Wailo, curator of (lie Christ* church Museum, has accepted the invitation to join Iho Aurora a sub-Antnrctio ocoanographic cruise, leaving Sydney on Jlay 5. The invitation was convoyed to Mr." Wnitc bv Professor David, who said that Dr. Ma'wson was anxious that ho should accompany the ship ns biologist in charge. Mr. Wailo states that tho object of (ho cruise was mainly to determine llw biological content of {he sub-Antaretio Ocean, f.ueh information heinß of importance ill connection with (lie food of economic fishes. The animals are 1,0 lv» secured with specinl nppnralus designed for their capture. Numerous observations dealing with sunshine, temperature*, currents, etc., will also bo made. The sub-Antarctic, urea includes tho Auckland;, Campbells. Antipodes . and the Macquarrks, hut Mr. Waite does not anticipate tluit the last-named ivroups will be touched as Dr. Mawson has already established a shore station there. Mr. Waite will probably leave unit Thursday for Sydney.
