NIVEN AND CO., LTD,, ENGINEERS

Tlio Campbell and Ehrenfricd Co., Ltd., bavo just placed an order with Messrs. Jas. J. Nivon ami Co., Ltd., for a refrigerating and power plant to be installed in their brewer;- at Auckland. The installation will consist of a "Linde" refrigerating plant, capable of making 18 tons of ico per 24 hours, driven by an 80 b.li.p. enclosed ventilated type electric motor. The ammonia condenser will be of the "atmospheric" type, containing over 5000 feet of special ammonia tubing. It will be manufactured in Messrs. Nivon and Co.'s Napier works, where an extensive plant is installed for this classof work. Mr. D. J. Harry also recently ordered from Messrs. Nivon and Co. an 18-ton "Linde" refrigerating plant for the Gisborno Brewery. It will do driven by a 70 b.h.p. "National" gas engine, In addition to the foregoing, Messrs. Nivcn and Co. have, at the present time, the following contracts in hand:—A complete two-cell "Sterling'' refuse destructor plant for the Napier Borough Council; a 55 b.h.p. "National" suction gas engine for Messrs. Goodfellow, Limited, Hamilton; a complete electric lighting and power plant for tho Hawkc's Bay Hospital nnd Charitable Aid Board; a rockdrilling and power plant for Mr. A. P. Grey, Dunedin; a 55 b.h.p. "National" suction gas engine and producer plant, also a steel gas holder and tank for tho Acetone Illuminating and Welding ■ Co., Ltd., Napier. Besides these tho firm have in hand an electric lighting and power plant for the AVairoa Borough Council. This installation comprises two 23 kilowatt electric generators with suitable switchboard and mains, etc., street reticulation, house connections, and a fire alarm system; also two 48 b.h.p. "National" gas engines with suitable producer plants. Thoy have also contracts for a. 26 b.h.p. "National" gas engine and producer plant for Messrs. C. L. Innes and C0.,-of Hamilton; two 60in. Broadbents, electrically-driven hydro extractors, and a "Potrie" wool-dryer, capablo' of dealing with 5001b. of wool per hum, for the South Otago Freezing Co., Ltd., Balclutha; a horizontal multitubular marine type boiler, Gft, diameter by 7ft. Gin. long, for the s.s. Wairoa, Picton; a 70 b.h.p. "National" suction gas enginefor Messrs. Montgomery and Co., Christchurch; a pumping nnd power plant for tho Pukekohe Town Board, comprising a three-throw horizontal ram type pump, capable of delivering 9000 gallons of water per hour against a head_ of 500 feet, driven by a 48 b.h.p. "National" suction gas engine. The firm also have in hand the complete equipment of the freezing - works now in course of erection at Whangarei. The main features of this installation are an 18-ton "Lindo" refrigerating plant, driven by a 55 b.h.p. "National" suction gas engine, 30 kilowatt electric dvnamo, driven by a 48 b.h.p. "National gas engine, a fcllnrangerr and boiling-down plant, comprising a "Niven's" patent rotary manure dryer, capable of handling the offal of 700 sheep per day, two tallow digesters, two reiiuers, a combination grinding, elevating, screening, and bagging plant, also a complete electric lighting plant, etc. Other contracts include a 17 n.h.p. Brown and May stationary steam engine for Mr. H Carlson's sawmill at Owhango; a 25 b.h.p. "National" suction gas engine for Messrs. Russell and Bignell, Wanganui; n G n.h.p. Brown and May portable steam engine for Mr. J. Milburn, of Waipawa; five tallow digesters, each 6ft. diameter by 9ft. Bin. long, for Messrs. Nelson Bros., Ltd., Tomoana; a 33 b.h.p. "National" gas engine for Messrs. Dick and Iflyger, Wanganui. Messrs. Nivon and Co. have also just completed three installations of "National" gas engines and producer plants in Wellington, viz., a 4-1 b.h.p. fer Messrs. K. 11. Crease and Son, Ltd, jam nnd pickle manufacturers; a 38 b.li.p. for Mr. E. Collie, furniture manufacturer; and a C 2 li.h.p. for the Wellington Cordage, Co., Ltd. Hlcctric lighting plants were also infilled ill Messrs. Crease and Collcy's establishments, and, ot tho present time, an extensive plant is being installed at tho Wellington Gas Company's works at Miramar. It consists of two 3G and one. G2 b.h.p. "National" gas engines, a compound wound electric generator, producing 153 amperes of current at 230 revolutions por minute, and two generators of tho samo type, but 79 amperes at 250 revolutions per minute; also a Gwyniio "Invincible" tyipo allbrass pressure pump, capable of delivering 10,000 gallons of. water per hour against a head of 130 feet, driven by a 13 b.h.p. electric motor.
