THREE SAILORS CONVICTED.

(Br Telegraph.—Press Aseoclatlon.l Auckland, April Iβ. Three sailors were charged at tho Folic* Court to-day with having deserted from the steamer Kia Ora on April 10. They, t'.ich had a plausible tale to tell—that , they had gone down to rejoin the ship, but had found her gone. They professed keen anxiety to gut back to the Kia Ora. The evidence for the prosecution, as given by the representative of the Kia Uia's agents, was to the effect that when thft three men charged with desertion called; at the agents' offices and obtained money, on the uuderstandinc that they would re. join tho vessel at Wellington, they had lnado themselves scarce again. It was mentioned ill evidence that the Kia Ora would reach tho HJuff this morning and would leave Xow Zealand from Wellington early in May. The defaulting sailors wero convicted and' Bontenced each to three weeks' imprisonment, tho term to bo reduced, if necessary, by having them placed on board tho vessel before.it lea vol. the country.
