SUNDAY'S TRAGEDY.

FOREMAN McLEAN'S FUNERAL,

Tlio funeral of Win. Robert M'l.ean, who was killed through accidentally coming into nn electric circuit while he n-as engaged with jiis fellow-firemen in extinguishing a fire in Manners Street early Inst Sunday morning, took place yesterday nftermm.

Leaving Nowtown at 2.!10 p.m., the cortege proceeded to Courtenay Place, and thence along Manners Street nnd up Uoutcott Street, uii route for Ktirori. T'asMiig along Manners Street, proceeded by the Tramways Band, the sight was impressive. Following the band were representatives of the police force, closely followed by about 50 firemen in full uniform, and marching in double file. These were followed in turn by more jwlico representatives, and the fire police, who immediately preceded the fire-cart upon which was the coffin, covered with the Union Jack and wreaths, and surmounted by a helmet. Then came members of the Leinster Lodge.

As the cortege passed the scene of the fire, a halt was nindo for a few seconds, and then it passed on. It was a rather touching scene.

Among those in the procession were the Acting-Mayor (Mr. John Smith), city councillors, and officers nnd members of the Underwriters' Association. Also included in the procession were SO members of the Fire Brigade (comprised of the permanent and auxiliary forces, fire police, and volunteers from Brooklyn, Kelburne, Roseneath, Island Bay, and Northland), under Superintendent O'Brien; representatives from the Miramar Fire Brigade; representatives from the Petone Fire Brigade; Superintendent Warner, of Palmerston North; leinster Lodge of. Masons; Pacific Lodge No. 8 of Druids; officers of the Electric Light De-_ partment; and about 20 members of the police force, under Inspector Ellison. The service at the graveside was conducted by the Eev. Mr. Mudge. and the fireman's ritual was read by the Superintendent of the Brigade. The Druids' burial service was also read.
