The Postmaster-General (Hon. H. G. Till) had arranged to leave yesterday for To Aroha, where ho would have opened a new post office to-day, but owing to tho death of Mrs. Ell's mother ho has been compelled to'cancel (his nnil other engagements, and proceed to Christchurch. Hβ wont south by last night's ferry boat. Ho was unable to say before leaving how long ho would remain in Christcni!"ch, or when he would bo able to auiko his projected trip to the north.

For its performance of Sullivan's "The Golden Legend," to be given ly the Auckland Choral Society on Mav 31, the services have been secured ot Miss Rosina Buckmnn, Madame. Dora Hunt (of England), Mr. Larsen (of Sydney), and Mr. Philip Xewbury.

MacMahon, of the Queen's Theatre, Auckland, arrived in Wellington yesterday afternoon from Auckland, on a brief business visit.

On the eve of his approaching marriage, Mr. 11. W. Piper, of the A.M.P. Society, was made the recipient of a presentation by members of the staff last evening.

Among tho passengers to journey from London to Hohnrt by tho Corinthic were several members of the theatrical profession under engagement, to Hionnan's, Ltd. (now about to amalgamate with John Fuller and Sons). There .'jflines were: Madame Zomah (mind reader), Miss Ellis, and Austin and Cowan. Later on those people will visit Xew Zealand.

The Rev. W. Ready, President of the Methodist Conference, last week visited Te Kuiti with tho object of forming a Methodist Church there. He was successful in his mission, and the ftev. E. 15. Liosnell has been appointed minister in charge.
