IBi Glkncox.l Though a, largo number cf horses worked at Trentham yesterday, there wore no very important gallops to record, and, in fact, very fow of the horses were sent against the.-watch. The outside of the ecurse proper, and the tan and sand gallop?, were open to trainers. Of the candidates for the Thompson Handicap, Los Angelc?, the top-weight, was nllotted half-paco work on the tan; Dearest (Lmerson) galloped a useful mile in limn. aOsec; fiipsy Belle (Emerson) also galloped a mile in Iniin. SOscc.; Bvron was given a- light task on the tan; Midnight Sun was exercised at half-pace; Effort, in company with Mira, ran six furlongs at three-quarter pace; Sea Queen broke, away at the six-inrlong post, and, being joined by Lambton a furloni; later, beat tho latter home, covering the distance in lmin. 19scc.; Merrivouia covered seven furlongs in lmin. 34sec.; and Khamsin easily defeated Llanwern over a milo in lmin. J7 3-ssec. Obliganv, done, galloped four furlongs attractively in SOecc. Stepney (Emorsori), Styx (H. Telford), and Jan (F. E. Jones) were, associated over four furlongs covered in 51 4-sscc. flronze («.■ Vrico) end Dlakeuey (A. Oliver) galloped four furlongs together on tho (an in 52scc. Dorando ,'Hcgarty) and Zanto (Traill) did a round of tho steeplechase fences tofisther, both i.hnping woll. Tho 'orinor was sore on pulling up. Xnvicr (.Murtauli) and Kosegrovo (OComtclI) als:\ went well together in a round of tho big fences, mid Lovell, who juuii>«d by himself, gave his usual good display. Owners aro reminded that acceptances for tho first day's handicap events at the Mnnnwntn Tlai'ing Club's meet ins close at 10 o'clock to-ui?)it with (he club's secretary, .Air. .1. Jl. Johnston. Final payments for the Manawatu Siakes and for ths Sires' Produce Stakes are due at tho sumo time.

A rumour was current in the city yesterday that Equitas had gone wrong, iind was an unlikely starter at Trentliani. Up till a late hour last evening no confirmation of this (in (he shape of (lie scratching of tho mare or otherwise) had been announcerl. '

Starter C. O'Connor arrived in (he rity by the Main Trunk express yesterday. ' The Iwo-vear-olds Jan, Styx, and O'hliRnnt have ten pnid up for'in both the Xorth Island Challenge Stakes and the rimiket Nursery Handicap to-morrow. Hamlicanpor G. Morse will Iμ? present on both days of the Trenthnm moot ing, after which he will declare his handicap's for tUe Marlborough fixture, and then

proceed to the Avondalo meeting, whicH takes place to-morrow week, and on the following Snturday. Even should Byron fail to run promutontly in tho Thompson Handicap, his new owner will have, a good chance of getting hack a proportion of his purchase money in the St. Loger on Saturday, in which the opposition, linrrinir Counter, feit, will be very weak both from a numerical and class point of view. At the present time the field leolis as if it would be made up of Counterfeit, Byron, and Sir Knox, and, ns the place monev is 50 sovs. and 25 sovs., it will pny 'thn owners of the two last-named horses to give them a run. H is reported that Effort and Gipsy Belle, who claim engagements in both the Thompson and Railway Handicap?, will be started in the mile event.' ' Up till 5 p.m. last evening tho only scratching recorded for tho Wellington Autumn meeting, which opens to-tuerrow, , was Lord Renown, who has been with, drawn from tho Silvcrstream Handicap. The following are the probable starters and riders in tho Thompson Handicap tomorrow :— Los Angeles, 9st. lllb W. Young Undecided, 9st. 3ib R, Hatch Boanerges, Bst, Blb A. Oliver Dearest, Bst. Gib B. Deelcy Byron, Sst. 51b C. Price Gipsy Belle, Bst. 41b C. Emerson Midnight Sun, Bst. 31b E. Lowe Sir Knox, 7st. 13lb C. Jenkins Effort, 7st. lllb W. Ryan • Sea Queen, 7st. lllb W. Price Khamsin, 7st. 71b H. Tricklobank Mira, "st. Mb R. Berry Odessa; 7.M-. 21b M. M'Donald Lady Moutoa, Ost. 101b W. Bell Ngatiruanui, 6st. 71b. ... O. M'Gortcn Sir Solo, Gst. 71b AV. Garrett In connection with tho Wellington Rao* ing Club's meeting, which opens to-nior-' row, special train arrangements have been made by which trains will leave Te Aro Station at 10.28 and 10.43 a.m. and Lambton Station at 10.45, 10.55, 11.5 a.m., and 1.5 p.m. Unless something unforseen occurs there is litUc chance of Los Anjroles being displaced from the position of favourite for tho Thompson Handicap. Several keen judges yesterday accepted the absurdly short odds quoted about he and Bandeira, and, should this double prove victorious to-morrow, the ring will, considering its weakened state, be very hard hit. To Waharoa. who is unpaged in the Silverstream Handicap nt Trentham tomorrow, has been moving freely in his work since arriving here. W. Ryan is vc fliavo the mount on the Sylvia Park gelding, and the same horseman will nlso steer Turna, Effort, Obligant. and Blu« Lake. Ten horses are aboard the Ulimaroa, due to arrive hero on Wednesday next. They aro probably the youngsters purchased bv Messrs. Watt and Lowvy at tho Randwick yearling sales. . C. Emerson will rido Glenfinnan in the Plunkot Nursery Handicap to-morrow. H. T«lford will 'have tho mount en Styx in tho sumo race. The Ellersliq .trainer, ,T. Williamson, will take a team south for the Wanganut .T.C. Winter meeting. Provided nothing unforeseen occurs, both Hautcro and , ; Oknihnu will competo at tho fixture. Tho Seat on Delaval gelding Jack Delaval : is evidently to Ira given an opportunity to win distinction over longer courses than ' ho has yet essayed, and he appears in ; both the princinal vaces at Avondnle. J. George is utill at Ellerslie with Paritutu, Crown Pearl, and Duro. which arn engaged at the Avondalo J.C. Autumn meeting. N . , , Nominations for tho Wanganm Jockey Club's Winter meeting closo on Friday next. FIXTURES. April 17 and 20—Wellington R.C. Autumn. April 24 and 25—Manawahi R.C. Autumn. Henri Salmet, tho Bleriot instructor at Hendou, arrived at Issy-les-Moulin-eaux, Paris, at 11.59 a.m. on March 7 from Hendon, which he left at 7.4", thus accomplishing tho flight from London to • Paris, about 235 miles, in 3hr. 12miu. By this magniiicent performance Salmet broke the non-stop record of M. Picrro Prior, his predecessor at Hendon, who took 3hr. 56nnn. for a longer Touto of 250 miles. Salmet beat tho fastest passenger route ■ from London to Paris by 31ir. 44miu. Hβ had a,u average speed of over 73 miles an hour. Salmet was at a height of over 6500 ft.. when he was first sighted at Issy, and descended in a graceful vol-planc to the military manoeuvre ground, bathed by the morning sun. He had a simple talc to tell of his voyage. "As tho wind was strong and gusty, blowing at my back, I had to rise at Hondou to over GOOOft. to find steadier air current.?, and as the clouds prevented me from seeing tho country over which I was flying I had tor steer by my compass. I wanted to leave the English shore at Newhavon and make. Franco at Dieppe, hut I went somewhat out of my course, and it was. at Eastbourne that I headed out to sea. "Now and again through a hole in the clouds I caught a glimpse of tho Channel and afterwards of the land in Franco. It was not until I reached Gisors, thirty-one miles from Parjs, that I was able to descend, and, picking up tho railway, get my bearings fe.r Paris. I felt immensely relieved when the Eiffel To\ver showed me that tho first half of my journey was at am end. I suffered a good deal from tho cold, and my machine was a good deal buffeted by tho wind."
