LADIES' HOCKEY.

THE ANNUAL MEETING.

t ,? c , nn ,? unl noting of the Wellington m 1 £\r-7 0e • Association was held in I i ; M ; C ' A - buildings last evening, Dr. Arnold Izard presiding. The annual report, read by the secretary, stated that the past season had been a very successful one. It was to bo regretted, however, that, during the removal of the books the ledger, and cash books had been lost. Owing to tho loss, it was impossible to give a detailed statement of the work of the past year. It was with regret that tho resignation of Anss Mellsop as secretary was accepted, and thanks were due to her foT her untiring efforts during the past season. Interest in hockey had greatly increased since the September tournament, and a good season this year was looked for. Although tho expenses of ,the tournament had been heavy, the balance-sheet showed a credit of .£3O 19s. 3d. New grounds had been provided at Duppa Street, Karori, and Petono. The report also stated that it was necessary that club secretaries nnd delegates should take more, interest in the work of the association. The lack of interest displayed by those concerned in tho management of the various clubs had greatly increased the work of secretaries in the past, and had militated against help being given by the general public. The thanks of tho association were due to Dr. Izard for his interest in their welfare. Thanks were also due to all who had forwarded donations; to Lady Islington for promising a senior competition cup, to those who had billeted players during the tournament, to Mr. Zohrab for assistance during the tournament, to Mr. A. Geddis, to the Y.M.C.A., and to Mr. J. D. M. Maclntyre for use of rooms for meetings, and to the proprietors of West's pictures for giving a benefit night. The financial position of the association was much better now than it had been for years. In lieu of' a previous debit balance of £i 9s. Sd., there was now a credit balance of .£3l Cs. 7d. The next tournament is to bo held in Auckland, and hope was expressed that all interested in hockey would help to rai»a funds to send one, if not two, teams to compete.

The election of officers was next dealt with, with the exception of the presidency, filled during tho past season by Dr. Arnold Izard. The vice-presi-dents elected were Miss Coades, Dr. Holmes, Rev. A. 11. Johnson, Messrs. T. M. Wilford, ,T. D. 31. Sfaclntyre, W. S. Organ, and A. L. Herdman; executive committee', Misses Griinshaw, Roadley, Fulton, Cunliffe, and Williams; delegates to tho New Zealand Ladies' Hockey Association, Miss Fulton and Miss MncKellar; lion, secretary, Miss Bramley; hon. treasurer, Miss A. Geddis; bankers, Union Bank of Australasia. The following ladies' hockey clubs applied for affiliation'to the association — l'etone District High School, Rata, St. Augustine, and Syrens. A considerable amount of discussion followed in connection with various matters in which the association's interests were concerned, tho discussion becoming at times rather animated. Mr. Hunter Miggested that a letter be sent, to the secretary of the Wellington Hockey Association asking fora reduction in the rental of the Day's liny grounds, and that tho following questions be submitted:—(l) What would be the lowest possible rental which the association would charge tho Wellington Ladies' Hockey Associiition for the- use of tho whole of the Day's Bay grounds? (2) In tho event of tho association not requiring all the grounds, what would it charge this ass-o-cialion for them? It was suggested also that the secretary write- to the ICarorj Borough Council asking for permission to uso the two hockcv grounds at Karori up till 3 o'clock on Saturday afternoons, and also to inquire what would bo the lowest possible terms at which tho association could use them. The secretary, Miss Brain ley, was directed to write accordingly. A vole of thanks was passed to Dr. Iznrd for presiding at the meeting, and regret was expressed that he did not soe his way to remain president for another
