HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The bi-monthly meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council was held last evening, and was attended by the.Mayor (Mr. E. 1 , . Bunny) and Councillors Hobbs, Ball, Roots, Clendon, Kempthorne, Hodgins, Knight, Stevenson, and Hawthorn. Mr. Devereux asked for information as to the cost and charges of the drainage agreement. Information do be supplied. •Mr. E. Kerr asked that the footpath on White's Line be attended to at the council's earliest convenience.—Engineer to report on cost. .■ Mr. Mather requested that, when tho estimates were being framed, the question of extending the water-main along Stilling Street be considered.—Resolved to hold the matter over till the estimates had been framed. The Fire Brigade applied' to have Fireman Stoupe granted a live years' servicu medal.—Granted. Mr. H. E. Leighton forwarded a cheque for £3 10s. in settlement of his account for drainage.—Received. Tho manager of King ■ George Theatre expressed regret at having inconvenienced tho council over a picture entertainment on Good Friday.—Received. The chairman and headmaster of the Hutt District School called attention to the premises occupied by a Chinese. The promises fronted the right of way leading to King's Road School, the building not being in accordance with tho bylaws.—lt was resolved to inform tho chairman of the School Committee that a previous resolution of the council had dealt fully with the matter. The Northern Rugby Union requested that, when the council was allocating grounds for this season, one should bo reserved for them.—lt was Tesolved to reply that no grounds were available. The "Wellington Rugby Union agreed to pay .£2O for the use of the Recreation Ground till the end of July. A. ratopaj-ex called attention: —(1) To the condition of the footpath in King's Road j (2) to an open drain on a property fronting King's Road; (3) to the bad lighting in the sanio road.—Engineer to report. The Hutt Ladies' Hockey Club was granted the use of tho Recreation Ground till the end of July. In terms of Section 41 of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Distribution Act, tho council was colled upon to pay ;E7S 2s. •Id. as their contribution for the current yenr—an increase of X 33 on last year. Tho engineer reported that tho whole of the drainage in Heke Street had been completed, and very little time would now elapse- before Section \ of tho eastern drainage would be finished. The surfacedrain at AVobuvn Road had non- been finished, the total cost being £'■$ ss. 7d. The estimated cost had boon £25. The work of preparing footpaths for tarring and sanding was progressing favourably. Three connections with the gas-mains and three with the wnlcr-mnins had boon mado to date. Permits to- the number of 475 under tho drainage and sanitary bylaws had been issued to date.
