FREAK DANCES.

Freak dances have boon gradually creeping- into West End ball?, to the annoyance of hostesses, who prefer adherence to their programme. The introduction of the "Turkey Trot" has provoked something like n revolt against barnyard anlics generally. One or two hostesses who have heard that exhibitions of this astounding performance are being given at the Hippodrome, and who are fearful that dancing mastn-s may rndeavour to introduce this weird production into private houses, have expressed their intention, in the public press, to omit from their .lists all guests who introduce (he vulgarities of the halls and the low dancing-rooms. Already (hero is a deal of hooliganism after many, a ball supper. The "Argentine Tango" and the "Dandy Dance'' are hideous writhings. The new "one-step," or the "twostep," which are not without grace when properly done, often degenerate into a wild display like the "kitchen lanecs." Rut the" possibility of the "Turkey Trot" being added to the ballroom extravagances Ims absolutely alarmed some hostessss in the West End. Turkey in Eastern Europe has its dancing dervishes and its bowling dervishes, but it has no indecent dervishes. The "Turkey Trot" is no product of the Ottoman Empire. Tt comes from America, and is supposed to represent (he movements of the turkey. It is n glorified cake walk; and the dancers caper about with no grace of movement, and bob to each other with churtling I cries, in imitation of the turkey's gobble. "Oscar" and "Suzette" have shown it at the Hippodrome. Dancing masters consider it as unsuitcd for a decent, ball as the dance of the Apaches. This, too, is the verdict of some of the best people in Xew York.
