MAJOR-GENERAL GRANT, U.S.A. j By Telegraph—Press Association-CopyriElit New Yoi>(«, April 12. The death is announced, from heart failure, of Major-General Frederick Dent Grant, a son of President Ulysses Grant, the famous Civil War general, aged 01. The lato Major-General Grant was born at St. Louis in 185 ft. 11.0 graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1871, on attaining his majority, and resigned after ten years' service. In 1885 he was appointed United States Minister to Austria, and from 1801 to 1898 lie was Police Commissioner of New York. In the latter year he was appointed Colonel of the 14th New York Infantry. Ho served in tho Philippines during the war with Spain, and has since held various important Armv commands. Since 1008 he has been Commander of the Department of the Lakes.
