PAYING WAGES.
CHEQUES NOT LEGAL TENDER. "It is not generally known that ti crossed cheque is not a legal payment of wages," observed Jlr. D. Carmody (labour Department Inspector) in a caso in the Magistrate's Court yesterday, Dr. ll'Arthur, S.JI., who was on the Bench, said that a cheque of any kind was not legal payment as wages. Tho defendant in (ho action said sometiling which appeared to bo to the cffect that ho had often paid by chequc. "i'es, but you don't find employers paying their employees by cheque," returned his Worship.
