5 TOR THE ART GALLERY. The .movement for support for the estab lishment of a National Art Gallery ii being carried into the schools. The prest (lent of the New Zealand Academy oi l']ine Arts has addressed the following circular to all the primary schools in Wellington and the immediate suburbs, and also to tlio Boys' and Girls' Colleges] St. Patrick's College, the Technical School, and all the large private schools:— "You are doubtless aw'are that the Government has decided to establish a_ National Art; Gallery at Wellington.' Following on that decision the council of the Acr.dcmy arranged with Jlr. John Baillic, of London, to bring here a selection of the works of tho leading British artists, and 'theso will bo on view for yuo month from about April "An efiort is being made here to secure the best of this magnificent collection, and it is hoped, after a gallery is started here, to institute a system of exchange with the other galleries of tho Dominion, whereby residents may have an opportunity of seeing all tho best pictures in NewZealand. "Tho council feel? particularly that such a gallery will bo a great boon to students, by bringing within their reach for study and example all that is best in art. lis value, too, ns an educational agency for the, rising generations will, 1 am sure, at once appeal to you. A 'Picture Purchase l'uiul' lias been started, and an appeal is being mado to all citizens to generously subscribe."
