N.Z. NURSERYMEN.

ANNUAL MEETING. (Br Telecraoh—Press Association.! Auckland, April 10. The fifth annual meeting of the NewZealand Association of Nurserymen (Incorporated) was opened iu Auckland this morning. The president, in liis address, mentioned that at the end of 1909 and 1910, the membership was just over 20. In 1910-11 it had increased to 30, and for the year just ended it was 50, embracing nearly all the leading firms in the North and South Islands. Mr. Lipiatt said that oversea competition at rates that precluded tho possibility of Dominion nurserymen competing and paying a living wage still prevailed, especially _ tho south. An endeavour was being made to get an understanding . amongst tho trade as to the best varieties of fruits to work up in quantity with lecommendations as to locality. The annual report submitted by the exKeutive committee stated that items for future consideration would include — (a) Watching the trend of intended legislation, (b) the question of the best and most profitable varieties of fruit to grow (c) improved trade methods, (d) standard uniform price for equal values in trees and plants. .Messrs. Horton (Hastings) add AViiugh (Wellington) expressed s-itisfasti u with the state of affairs disclosed by the annual report. Office-bearers for the ensuing year were elected as follows:—President, Mr. A. M'Donald (Kpsom); vice-presidents, Messrs. ,T. Johnston (Ponsonby); hon. secretary, Mr. G. A. Green (Ttemuern); auditor, Mr. W. W. Gliddon Richardson; Executive Committee, Messrs. G. A, Hay, F. W. Booth. G. J. Macknv, P. Bennett, and W. W. Gliddon Richardson.
