$ PASSENGERS RESCUED. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright Now York, April 9. . The steamer Ontario, a vessel of 3082 tons gross, belonging to the Merchants' and Miners' Transportation Company, is in flames off tho harbour. The passengers have been rescued. The steamer's crew is fighting the flames with little success. The cargo of cotton has'been jettisoned. The captain ran the vessel ashore when the fire started.
