ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
INQUEST AT HOSPITAL. Mr. W. G. Itiddell, S.M. lipid nn inquest at riie Hospital yesterday morning touching tho (le;itk of William JUaher, an old age pensioner, who formerly resided at the Salvation Army Hotiie, Tory street. Mailer was aljout Co years of age, and, about 1 p.m. on March 30, he was picked ,ip at lh« foot of some stops in a public convenience in Courtenay i'ltieo. It appeared as if he had had a paralytic stroke, and, as lie was evidently suffering, he was removed in the Hospital, where ho died a week later. .Senior SerKeant .Mathic-ion, of Wellington South represented the police nt the inquest. . Jividence was given by Harry J)arrell, n City Council employee, who "picked up the deceased at the time of the accident, iindwlio stated that deceased at first said that someone had pushed him down the steps, but afterwards slated lie had fallen down. ])es(>is;d win not a strung man, and was addicted lr> liquor. T)r. H. Hardwicke Smith- stated that, when deceased was admitted to (he Hospital at l.:i(l p.m. on March 30, lie was suffering from the effects of a fall, was paralysed on one side, mid had a bruise on the forehead. On April U, deceased took a bad lurii, and gradually grew ivenker, succumbing at 8.10 oi\ April 8. The direct cause of death wa? pneumonia, due to a generally weak and paralysed condition. Evidence was also given by Constable Murray, of I.ambton Quav. A verdict was returned in accordance ivith the medical testimony. His Worship ndded a few words with reference lo deceased's conflicting statements ns to how he canio to fall. They were probably 'xplained by the doctor's statement to the ■fleet, that Mallei had probably been seized jy a paralytic stroke arid had'-fitllen , clown ;he steps. LITTLE BOY KUX OVER, Douglas Mundr, a boy of nine years, rhose parents -reside at 13 Queen Street, ras run over by a butcher's cart in Vicoria Street yesterday. At the time ol he accident the boy was running beu'nd another vehicle. He was injured in ho head somewhat, and was taken to the lospital. The hospital reported lasf light that the extent of the boy's in uriea were not knov;n, but that he did lot appear to be very seriously hurt.
